The seven-year-old me (nee Chelsea Dunaway) was one to be plopped in front of a faded piece of thin paper and scribbling away on a pre-drawn waif of a figure my mom had placed in front of me. Every occasion, whether a birthday, Halloween or even the first day of school, was a chance for me to design my own outfit. Growing up in an intensly artistic yet pseudo-structured household led to my ability to latch into my own niche and revel in it. Because we hadn't the money to go out and purchase all the neon floral bathing suits every other child my age had, I had the opportunity to design one just for me that my mom would make.
In high school, I started trends that were shunned by some and flaunted by others, but amusing all around. I made my own pants out of sparkly, whimsical material, D.I.Y. shirts and skirts out of old t-shirts, and finally gave into my guilty pleasure and took over the costume wing in the drama club.

College allowed for a new independence and with that came my revamped style of made-by-me clothes. Having a couple of prom dresses in my back pocket and plenty of free time, I nearly begged my friends for an excuse to sew. One of my favorites is a dress i made for a friend attending a wedding. I can't say that I feel guilty for stealing the guests' eyes from the bride.
My favorite projects were the 2005 FIT/Parsons
Fusion Fashion Show, which I worked on with Felicia K, and the 2006 April UCONN No Boundaries Fashion Show. I'm addicted to designing uniquely while borrowing from current trends, and to standing out. Working with Felicia K on both of these projects was incredible.
I currently create one-of-a-kind, show-stopping apparel, and occasionally custom, on-commission items. I'm also available for fashion illustration and design work.
